Why Ladies Groups

HPE operates through structured women’s groups. This model builds trust, accountability, and peer support. Women feel safer conducting business within a group structure, while still maintaining individual loan contracts.

Group participation encourages shared learning, emotional support, practical assistance, and natural accountability. To date, no HPE client has missed a payment.

The HPE Loan Process

Step 1: Each woman begins with 100,000 TZS for 90 days at 6% interest. At completion, she must present the full principal and pay 6,000 TZS interest (106,000 TZS total).

Step 2: After successful completion, the loan is topped up to 300,000 TZS for 120 days at 6% interest.

Step 3: At renewal, she presents 300,000 TZS principal and pays 18,000 TZS interest (318,000 TZS total), and the cycle continues.

This process shifts mindset from survival to structured business discipline.

Developing Market Access

Capital alone is not enough. HPE supports transport entrepreneurs who connect villages to markets, facilitating movement of goods, produce, and passengers. This ensures money flows into rural communities.

Funding Community Business – Now and Future

Current funding focuses on women’s microloans and transport operators. Future expansions may include agricultural processing, livestock projects, and mechanical services, provided they do not compromise the core women’s lending program.

Working with Community Leaders

HPE collaborates with village leaders to strengthen local economic development. This may include discussions around road improvements, education access, healthcare services, clean water access, and electricity expansion.
