Connecting Villages to Markets

Access to markets is one of the greatest barriers facing rural entrepreneurs in Tanzania. Without reliable transport, goods cannot reach buyers, produce rots before sale, and economic opportunity is lost. HPE's Transport Program addresses this gap directly through asset-based loans for Guta three-wheelers and Boda Boda motorcycles.

What We Finance

Guta (Three-Wheel Vehicles): HPE currently manages asset-based loans for 12 Guta vehicles. These three-wheelers are essential for transporting goods, produce, and passengers between villages and nearby market centers.

Boda Boda (Motorcycles): HPE also finances 6 Boda Boda motorcycles, supporting riders who provide affordable transport services to community members, connecting people to schools, health centers, and markets.

How Transport Loans Work

Transport loans are asset-based, meaning the vehicle itself serves as the basis for the loan. Operators make structured repayments over an agreed period. HPE staff monitor progress and provide support throughout the loan term to ensure operators remain on track.

Community Impact

Every financed vehicle creates direct economic activity. Transport operators earn income, women can move goods to market, families access services, and money circulates within rural communities. Transport is not just a convenience — it is an economic multiplier.

Our Record

No transport operator financed by HPE has ever missed a payment. This reflects the quality of borrower selection, community accountability, and the genuine income-generating capacity of the vehicles financed.
