Empowering Women Through Structured Lending

The HPE Women Empowerment Program is the core of everything we do. We provide structured, low-interest microloans to women running small-scale businesses in rural Tanzania — giving them the capital, confidence, and community they need to grow.

How the Program Works

Each woman joins a group of 15 members organized by a trusted community leader. HPE staff travel directly to villages to meet participants, explain loan terms, and answer questions. Every participant signs a standardized contract clearly outlining interest, repayment schedule, and responsibilities.

Loan Structure

Step 1 — First Loan: 100,000 TZS at 6% interest for 90 days. At completion, she repays 106,000 TZS total (principal + 6,000 TZS interest).

Step 2 — Second Loan: 300,000 TZS at 6% interest for 120 days. At completion, she repays 318,000 TZS total.

Each cycle builds financial discipline, business confidence, and a track record of repayment. The process continues with full transparency and accountability at every stage.

Why Groups?

HPE operates through structured women's groups because this model builds trust, accountability, and peer support. Women feel safer conducting business within a group structure while maintaining individual loan contracts. Group participation encourages shared learning, emotional support, and natural accountability.

Our Track Record

Since April 2024, HPE has funded 21 women's groups across Mbatakero and Ngosero villages, serving over 315 women. To date, no participant has ever missed a payment.

Interest Reinvested

All interest collected is reinvested back into the program to fund additional women's groups. This self-sustaining cycle ensures HPE can continue expanding without relying solely on external donors.
